President Museveni launches “Kisoboka” Agro Tourism initiative
MITYANA – This Agro Tourism initiative, a brainchild of Hon Ssuubi Godfrey Kiwanda, the Mityana North Member of Parliament who also doubles as Uganda’s Minister of State for Tourism, seeks to change the mindsets of farmers in Mityana to shift from subsistence to commercial agriculture and increase their household incomes as they promote Agro tourism.
With limitations of land, farmers must ascertain the most profitable undertakings to maximize land use. For example, instead of crowding local cattle on a small piece of land, one could opt for Fresian cows on zero-grazing basis noted President Museveni.
Museveni also emphasized the need to critically assess which crops could be grown with high returns.
“That is why I emphasize the four-acre model that includes planting coffee, fruits, food, grass for cattle and rear chicken in the backyard”
“I thank Hon Kiwanda for this initiative and demonstrating to you that wealth creation through Agro Tourism is possible. I congratulate him for putting the NRM wealth creation gospel into action”
People should not claim they are waiting for government programs in order to develop themselves. A pig will not resist to be taken to the market for sale or slaughter just because the road is not tarmacked noted President Museveni.
President Museveni also launched the Uganda Tourism Board Safari Land cruiser and gladly accepted the request that to be patron of the Kisoboka SACCO and pledged Uganda Shs50 million contribution towards its activities.
